about

The Second Son is inspired by a timeless story of regret and redemption - the story about a dad who never gave up, and a young man fuelled by passion, freedom, opportunity, and eventually remorse. The high tides of the verses, with their soulful beats and swirling guitars recede to the low tides of the chorus, echoing the empty sentiments of the son "What have I done? What have I become?"

lyrics

I left my home behind me
My dad's heart on fire
I traded his investments
For some bigger smoke
All cashed up my big dreams
Of old times for good
Burned away to cinders
As I flushed them down the hole

What have I done?
What have I become?
What have I done?
What have I become?

There's nothing left in front now
But the cul-de-sac
I burned away my bridges
How could I go back?
Picking up the scraps
Living off the crumbs
There's no shame in survival
Looking out for number one

What have I done?
What have I become?
What have I done?
What have I become?

How many times I wonder
Can the man forgive?
Is it once or twice or more than
Seventy seven times seven?
I'll take my chance on more
There's nothing left in less
No shame left in redemption
A new heart from brokenness

What have I done?
What have I become?
What have I done?
I just want to be your son.
